Ukrainian cuisine restaurants in Kiev

The overwhelming majority of tourists say that Ukrainian borscht and bacon from pork belly are a jest about taste buds and digestive tract. In reality, the choice of Ukrainian cuisine is much wider, more varied and tastier. If you dont know where to go in Kiev or what to do in Kiev, try our Gastro tour. During the 2-hour tour you will visit best Ukrainian restaurant, will taste Ukrainian cuisine dishes: hearty borsch with pampushki (garlic buns), dumplings or pierogi, homemade sausages, ukrainian pickles. Decor of the restaurant takes you back a hundred years, embroidered towels, homespun carpets and tablecloths as well as other items which are typical for Ukrainian rural huts. Below you will find information about some of the best at the moment Ukrainian cuisine restaurants in Kiev.

The restaurant is working for over forty years. After it became a part of Carte Blanche net, everything got even better – well-trained and highly experienced staff, cozy interior, beautiful houses in the woods, and, of course, excellent Ukrainian cuisine. There is no way you can find at least the slightest faults, everything is perfect – starting from made in-house fruit drinks (we recommend to order jar, not glass- you gonna like it!), grilled meat, fish, soup and all other traditional products. Our regular orders: dumplings with rabbit meat, okroshka (cold kvass soup with vegetables and cooked meat), roasted pork with mushrooms, and when it comes to desserts we like honey cake and poppy-seed cake with caramel.

Hilarious and predictable when it comes to menu restaurant at Rognedinskaya street – that is very close to the Olympiyskiy National Sports Complex. The prices are rather high, and the public is appropriate. We recommend the following: meat plate a la homemade (chicken roll, veal roll with dried apricots, baked ham), solyanka (dish of stewed cabbage and meat with spices), Kiev recipe veal, Such a Vaudeville as a Mercy (rabbit in sour cream).

Puzata Hata

A restaurant that is incredibly popular among the people is a part of Carte Blanche net. One can hardly say this is fast food, ‘cause if THAT is fast food, it is at its best: spacious interior in ethnic style, varied menu, and most important – it’s all delicious, starting with a salad and finishing with chicken a la Kiev and fried potatoes. The only thing  Puzata Hata is not best at is the desserts: it is not always “a la homemade”, and not always fresh. As for the rest this is the perfect budget option to explore Ukrainian cuisine.

Lipsky (Lipsky mansion)

Pompous restaurant at Lipki, the heart of the capital, is a part of Mirovaya Karta net. Lipsky restaurant with its menu which is frankly saying doubtful is yet a good reason to take a walk at Lipki, a part of Kiev that is always calm and always beautiful. If you are not yet tired of the “mansion” interiors (there are no embroidered decorations on the walls and no all that other ethnic stuff), order the borscht, it is truly excellent, Three-layer meat in jelly a la Slavic, best ever homemade sausage, as a second course order rabbit in a white wine, and drink only vodka, do not fall for sommelier suasions.

Legendary place in Shevchenko Park, older people of Kiev remember it as Taras restaurant. Taras is now located near the Nyvky metro station, the menu is identical, and people of Kiev still have the habit of taking pancakes home from the restaurant. Yet despite these two places are very similar, we would still  recommend O’Panas. The Shevchenko Park has special atmosphere, lots of people there, nice interior, the meals is rather bearable – so book your table in advance. There is much non-Ukrainian meals in the menu, and we especially like salad Nobles (baked pumpkin, apple, grape, Parma ham, sauce of goat cheese and raspberry), Catch Fisher (pumpkin, stuffed with spinach and baked sweet pepper with cheese and lemon sauce), beef medallions in berry sauce with baked pear. Borscht is quite good, potato pancakes are simply fabulous.

Tsarske Selo

Wonderful place near the Museum of World War II, with a colorful interior. The venue is not too spacious, but it is rather comfortable. We highly recommend pike meat balls, mincemeat, borscht with prunes and pork ribs, cabbage soup in bread, cabbage rolls with porcini mushrooms. You will certainly like cheesecakes and poppy seed cake for dessert.

Designed for customers who still remember the Soviet 60s. The emblem shows Khrushchev. The menu is focused on the Soviet standards of good feast. To start with order potato pancakes with sour cream, pudding and cabbage rolls with meat. Borscht with sour cream is served in keeping with the best traditions of Ukrainian cuisine. Fried crucian carps will compete with carp baked in sour cream. The place offers a la homemade starch drink, fruit drinks, juice and uzvar. Choosing alcohol there are attention worthy spotykach, cranberry vodka and hrenovuha (vodka made of horse-radish).

Famous Ukrainian borsch, pampushki, galushki and vareniki are waiting for you in the best restaurants of Kiev.
