World War II Tour
from €32
per personThe National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War is a memorial complex commemorating the German-Soviet War located in the southern outskirts of the Pechersk district of Kiev.
This is not surprising – 102 meters high Motherland Monument, one of the Top-20 highest statues in the world, which is even higher than the Statue of Freedom in the USA is located on the territory of Museum. The exposition of the museum is dedicated to Ukraine’s participation in the Second World War and Ukraine’s contribution to the Victory over Nazism; it is a collection of rare documents, photographs, transport, weapons, aircraft, and tanks of both domestic and German production. The complex includes the building of the museum, Motherland Monument, a sculptural gallery dedicated to the heroes of the front and rear, the Cup of Glory, and exhibition of military equipment from the times of World War II. The main exhibition covers the area of 5000 meters and includes 12,000 exhibits.
According to statistics, Museum of the Second World War is the most visited museum in Kiev
Visitors are often interested in numerous documents, autobiographical memories of famous military leaders, collections of orders, eyewitness accounts and front-line letters present in Museum. The opening ceremony of the Museum took place in 1981 and was visited by Mr. Brezhnev, chief secretary of the CPSU Central Committee; a year later, he passed away.
In the museum you will see shocking exhibits, such as: gloves made of human skin, soap made from human fat, pillows filled with human hair, machines for grinding human bones, etc.
In one of the halls of the museum, on the high multi-meter walls, the names of the Heroes of the Soviet Union are carved in fine print of gold.
Evidence of the terrible tragedy of the 20th century, which took more than 60 million lives, shall never allow us to forget the importance of preserving peace on earth.
During 2-hour excursion with a private English-speaking guide, you will learn about the prerequisites and the course of military operations, its consequences and life stories of ordinary people who have passed or have not survived in this war.
