The Golden Gates

Your acquaintance with the city will start from The Golden Gates. It was the main gate in the 11th-century fortifications of Kiev, the capital of Kievan Rus. The name ‘Golden Gates’ originates from the beauty of this building and not from the material it is made of.

Sirotkin House

The next hot point is Sirotkin House. It’s one of the most beautiful buildings in Kiev. House is designed in the spirit of the Renaissance, decorated with stucco and extraordinary sculptures all around.

The National Opera House

The National Opera House which is a gem of Ukrainian and Russian culture that houses professional ballet and opera performances in the heart of Kiev. The theater has been given a certain fatalistic aura. That kind of aura is a must for any outstanding opera stage of the world. Find out more during the tour!

Maidan Nezalezhnosti

Then guide will show you the main street of the city – Khreschatyk. It stretches from the European Square to Bessarabska Square. You will hear a history of Maidan Nezalezhnosti which has been the traditional place for political rallies, including large-scale radical protest campaigns: the 2004 Orange Revolution, and the 2013–14 Euromaidan.

St. Sophia's Cathedral

Discover St. Sophia's Cathedral as one of the city's best known landmarks and the first heritage site in Ukraine to be inscribed on the World Heritage List along with the Kiev Cave Monastery complex.

St. Michael's Cathedral

The next stop is St. Michael's Cathedral. The grandson of Yaroslav the Wise, Prince Sviatopolk, founded the cathedral in the early 12th century. It is named in honor of St. Michael - the protector of Kiev.

St. Andrew’s Church

After that, your guide will take you to the beautiful St. Andrew’s Church, built in 18th century in Baroque style. It stands on the high hill and you will enjoy the panorama of the city from this part.

Being first time in Kiev we booked a personal 5 hours walking tour and we are glad we did. Our guide was Alexandra, a lovely young, intelligent and engaging guide. Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Our tour covered all the key sites of Kiev: Independence Square, St. Michael’s Cathedral, St. Sophia Cathedral, St. Andrew’s Church, Golden Gate… Then a quick insight into the Metro before saying a fond farewell. I am sure more could have been achieved but for my wife and I the ability to dictate what we did on the day was much more beneficial. A totally enjoyable and worthwhile tour and throughout the communication from the company was perfect. Take good walking shoes and dress for the weather but don’t take too much stuff with you. Thank you Alexandra and Guide me UA.

We would highly recommend taking a tour with Kate – and if possible make it one of the first things you do in Kiev. Kate has lots of recommendations and also gave us discount coupons for a Chernobyl tour.

I booked a personal walking tour of the old town when I first arrived in Kiev and was very glad I did. My guide, Kate, was brilliant. She has a huge depth of knowledge of Kiev and the histroy of Ukraine. She has an infectous enthusiam and delivers, what could be quite dry information, in a light-hearted and entertaining way. She also gave some great advice on the best restaurants and bars in Kiev. I thoroughly recommend the tour.
